ok , well thanks to Jimi , I thought about it and said screw it , went and got a new computer today. It's not much ,but daaaaaaaamnnnnn it's way better than what I had , I dig it ;)

there's a reason why I didn't call everyone and ask if what I was getting was ok with their likes / dislikes :mock

remember , I just stepped up from a 400 mhz celeron with a broken cd burner , 128 megs of ram and 30 gig hard drive. Far as I'm concerned I'm driving a caddy right now. If i decided to get back into gaming or wanted a serious system , I'd go to alienware , but since I'm poor ( hence the HP ) I don't have that luxury. :angel :angel

just set up another computer as a network storage device....

i thoguht abotu that but i jsut dont have the funds to do that right now.. my laptop is my server for ventrillo, and i was thinking about putting my Portabel HD on it.. but it has no USB-2 or Firewire.. so i leave it all on my compy now..

off subject but...

does anyone knwo of a good way to completly back up my computer, Mirror style.. so i can reformate it completely with a partitioned drive for my OS, and then everythgin else on a seperate section of the disk. personally id liek to ge tone of those 30 gig drives that go liek 10,000 rpm's for my OS only... andn then everything else can be my SATA drives.... sucky need to get another SATA card too..



ohh another good off topic question...


if i have 2 120 gig sata... and i want to ADD 2 300 gig sata drives can i still raid them?!

im thinking no cause of the size difference.. but i coudl be wrong..

1. are you using WinXPpro? if so, you can back up anything using the built in backup program.
if you want to completely mirror it, it wont work because the registry entries will all be wrong since the OS will be on a different drive than the registry thinks.

also you will need to reinstall most applications as they will be looking for the wrong entries as well.

and on the raid, you couldraid them all together as a 120gb drive....

and if your lappy doesn't have firewire or USB 2.0, go spend $30 on a PCMCIA usb/firewire 2.0 card. Works great, thats what i did....
