So i'm messing around with my actiontec dsl modem, and i discover something interesting....

it runs busybox linux on it!

telnet in and lookie there, i can do a lot more in there than i can from the gui.

little more complicated, but i found out that some guys actually have their modems serving webpages! (small static ones but hey, it serves em)

i also found out some enterprising people have taken the open source code, and compiled their own images to load ont othe modems....

sweeet!

watch out MS users.....some day the penguin will shut down the world for you......

hehehehehehehehehe

if you want simple and easy to install thats gui based, go with fedora core 4

probably the easiest to get and easiest to install, just let it do the basic install for a workstation.

problem is it's easiest to install from cd's. so if you can burn ISO images, they can be found here:
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/4/ppc/iso/

just get the FC4-ppc-disc#.iso set, thats all you'll need

Thanks Budha

Do i need to burn them to a disk in order to install them?

Is Linux compatable with Power Commander software?

I tried downloading Windows 98, 95, 2000, XP, Me, from limerwire and all but one were infected with a virus. I did get 2000 W. but It won't install. (:

Linux Is my last hope

I'm surprised that they're still using telnet instead of SSH. Same with Cisco. :kicknuts

Not true. The only real thing that makes it "easiest" possibly is that other people keep sending trash (non-virus) to people and they get fed up because they can't view MS only crap.

Linux has come a long way, and is better than it used to be. It's definately better than windows, and has been for a while.

BTW, Windows is pretty much unused on my desktop at home and has been for oh... a couple years now. I fire up a VMWare instance once in a while for windows, but it's pretty rare. I haven't booted into the Windows partition of my HDD for roughly a year or so. :hooray

Although, I'm still required to use Windows on my laptop at work. :hung

Fedora is just as easy to learn for a newbie as Windows is.

GUI based and self installing.

It even looks a lot like windows (if you want it to), without all the unecessary crap.

the only reason windows is easier to learn for most people, is that they have access to more people with knowledge of windows then linux.

One of the guys I work with, switch his marginally computer literate father over to Linux from windows, and hasn't looked back since.

Linux is easy to learn, provided you want to spend the same amount of time learning it as you do/did windows. :fact

You just said the exact same thing I did on the R1-Forum a while ago. ;)

I wasn't arguing that Linux isn't easy to learn. That's been my statement all along. What I was saying was that there are more people out there who use MS and send out stuff that is primarily supported on MS. While not a full argument on that it does tend to make some people wonder why should they use something that doesn't support the vast majority of other computers (yet).

Yes, I know there's ways to get around a lot of this with various applications and plugins but many people don't know how to set that up and a lot of it isn't by default "out of the box" within Linux.
