what's the big deal w/ getting this put in? i know i'm dumb but i don't understand. why MUST they have this?

because the tires they are running wont last and in F1 this year, you are not allowed to change tires after the race starts.

if you do, you get penalized unless it is for a "Clear and demonstratable safety issue"

so since michelin cant make a tire that they know will last, they got the teams to :nowhine about it to the FIA.
