I have been out of the hardware game for a while but PCIe gives more room for grawth no? Upgrade path was always my main goal when I used to build. Going AGP at this point would be like going 754 instead of 939 for AMDs.

:imwst 16x pcie is the way to go... if your into gaming make sure you get a board with 2 16x slots because dual card gaming is coming back and it's reminding me of my dual voodoo2 setup i once had :D

if your not gaming or light gaming agp still has PLENTY of room considering the cards you can get in agp right now, then again save the 250 bux you'd put extra into a pcie system and get yourself a psp :hooray

do you plan on upgrading the machine in the future?
And are you willing to put another $600-$800 or more into it to get another video card?

If not, then don't waste your money on PCIe.
The current 16x PCIe cards do not perform any better than the current AGP cards.

And the AGP cards are a LOT cheaper.

the 256mb ATI Radeon 9800Pro actually performs slightly better than all but the X800 series PCIe cards, and the two of them are basically tied since each one does some games better.

Also AGP cards do not require as much power and do not create as much heat.

so buying a great computer now, and being willoing to invest another large sum in it later = PCIe.

Otherwise save the money and buy/build an AGP system.

Hell if you want a great start, go find a Dell 400SC on e-bay.
great platform to start from and only cost $300.00
