Pictures: Melandri attacked in pit lane! (Assen GP)

FRIDAY 24TH JUNE 2005

These pictures show a furious Valerio Biaggi, Max's uncle, making his thoughts clear to Marco Melandri after he and Max collided in the closing stages of today's qualifying session for Saturday's Dutch TT.

Melandri blamed Biaggi for blocking him on a fast lap and doing a dangerous practice start before the session had finished.

Various gestures between the two only worsened the situation and they eventually made contact at the final chicane when Melandri cut across the nose of Biaggi's Repsol Honda.

Max stayed on his machine, just, while Marco later said that Valerio had grabbed him by the throat in the "crazy" altercation that followed (pictured). Marks on Melandri's neck can clearly be seen in the lower picture (click on pic to enlarge).

Biaggi, who had earlier clashed with Franco Battaini, was later fined $6000 following an inquiry into today's incidents.
