Hi guys,
well im going to buy a track bike this summer or fall since we will have a full up track out here in september. I will ride my 1k on the track but I want a track only bike that will allow me to be al ittle more confident and not scared to death of maknig a $15000 (and appreciating) mistake.
I was thinking a cbr600rr since I will not be racing only doing track days. The only thing that makes me consider otherwise is my size. The lightests I'll be this year is probably 220lbs and I'll quickly get back up to 260. Do you think I would be ok with something like an RC51?? I know I dont need anything like my gixxer for the track as I will be a slow bastard im sure.. just thought I'd get your opinions.

thanks!

I personally would go for a 4 cylinder over a v twin since they would be easier to handle in the corners. and if you upgrade the suspension on the rr you shouldn't have much of a problem.

if it's REALLY just going to be a track bitch, then get something cheap and easy to work on.

nothing more stupid than going out and buying an expensive bike or a pretty one, just to go ride it on the track.

What are your true objectives?
Are you going out to learn to ride better?
Are you going out just to say you did it?
Are you going out to look good?

be honest with yourself and you'll get your answer.

Oh and i tracked my slow ass Duc 748 for two years at 240lbs, and it was still faster than i was.

you want to learn to really ride, get a slower bike. it will teach you better throttle andbrake control.
You want ot just say you did it, just get anything that wont require a lot of maintenance.
You want to pose, get something new. But be prepared to have some sneers. they will happen. Doesn't matter if thats all you want.

All i have to say is that there is nothing worse than to be on a track, and have to constantly find your way around the brand new bike with the slow ass rider.

EX250, EX500, SV650 (99-02, non-S model), FZR400 all make good trackbikes.

Before corey tries to call me gay, it's a lot cooler seeing somebody on a "little" bike blowing past the n00bs on their R1CBRGSXRZX 1000 or whatever that can't ride their way out of a paper bag.

Not having straight line accelleration forces you to learn to keep up corner speed, which translates well into moving to a bigger bike with more accelleration :)

I just want to be a better rider. I'll never race I just want to go out go fast (for me) and have fun. I plan on taking all the advanced rider classes out here and then probably a california superbike school or something like that. I dont care what the bike looksl ike just something that is cheap and will allow me to progress. I've been looking at all the 600's just waiting for something to come up thats cheap.

Kent,
I have two of them lol. Just the cheap ones off ebay though. They are fun one of them (the one that wont start dammit) goes almost 45mph. We brought them into the gym one night and rode around . I tried to ride it on the treadmill but almost biffed BAD!

Stone,

On of the Racers out in Tooele John Carver, Runs a 2005 GSXR 1000 on track. It does fine. Tooele's track is just tighter than any other track so on the liter bikes it will be a little slower in some of the tight turns. But it won't hinder you.

If you get serious about track let me know. I just bought a Nissan Titan yesterday just to haul bikes arround for Track and Race days. We will be running all over the west coast and it would be great to have you along with us. Your riding will progress immensley.

There is only 1 last ART school day through the USBA in Tooele. Its July 31, Sunday. There are other track days left but just no School days. But once yor dialed in on the track, finding a instructor on one of the track/practice days to help you out is super easy.

Im heading out on the next practice day, Thursday July 14th. You should try to come out if you get your suit.
