I have had very good luck with no downtime at all in the last two years.... I'm even thinking of switching our Company site over there..... Every issue I have had with them - they have fixed within 1 hour after an e-mail was sent. Although I must point out - they were things I screwed up... not them.. lol

If you need Front Page - let me know.................

Wheatman, if you're still looking; I went through Yahoo to get my domain name and it's about $12 a month. They've got an easy to use program with templates to get you started designing. If you only want a personal page, this will more than cover what you want to do.--> http://us.1.p4.webhosting.yahoo.com/

If you want to see what you can do with it, feel free to check out my page:

El Cheapo has spoken !

 :fawkdance :fawkdance

I took a hosting plan at icdsoft.com. I get 500MB advertising-free webspace, and have 2 registered domains (payable separately).

When thinking about registering a domain name, consider that in 10 years, your daomain name will be more important than your phone number.

I use dreamweaver and macromedia Flash/fireworks for my site. Graphics designed with Photoshop.

If you want to take a look, the site is at:

If you need any pointers to get started, let me know.

Man you guys are way over my head. I know it's not real expensive just to register a domain, but I don't have the equipment to host it and all that other fancy g33k stuff. I just saw the deal from Yahoo, and they were waiving any startup fees, so I figured for less that what I spend on lunch in a day, they handle all the technical stuff, and I get like 25 email addresses, the site to design however I want, site statistics, etc, etc,. You uber-geeks (and I say that with all due respect  ) have to remember that not all of us can read binary and write code like it was our native tongue!! Had I gone to school for some of this stuff- maybe; but I'm all self taught. I happy just to be doing what I'm doing. Keep talking though. You guys jabbering about stuff like this is how I learn.... ;)

Budha, just hook him up allready. lolokay. with what?
he still needs to go register a name and shit.
i could host tons of pages, as long as they dont sell anything, but then the problem becomes how much help do i give people.
i've hosted pages for people, and then they want this and that, and help me do this, and do that for me....

NO!
do it your damn self!

not that i wouldn't host a page for people, but face it, free hosting is free hosting.
take your space, learn to do certain things, and then leave me alone for the most part.

hell, i told my mom no because she only wants to have me do it, and i got enough shit to do.

but the offer is out there guys, if you know what you want, and are willing to play by my rules, i can set up a neew host pretty quickly, and as long as your not hosting porn, or selling shit, i might help out.
keep in mind though, that traffic would be limited, and the logss are open to inspection, so if you wanna post shit on every forum in the world, it wouldn't last long....

sorry, but i'm not risking my free hosting for anybody.....

I'm by no means saying my way is best, but what you said is exactly what I wanted when I got my page. There's no writing code, no overly technical stuff with the program they supply with the package (its called Sitebuilder) It's built around templates and you just add your own stuff---push a button, browse for your pic---it inserts it for you. Push a button--a text box appears--type what you want--done. Not being a smartass, but my wife even started her own page, so it can't be that hard. She can't do anything but check her email and surf the web, but she can do this. If you've ever played around with anything like MS Publisher, then you can use Sitebuilder.

Here try this too. I used it and registered a dot com addy to link it to there. No I will not give out my site yet but I've had it for a few years. Its alright, around 30 bucks a month gets billed to my phone bill. I'm not sure if its a good price but I have control on how I want it done. Took me awhile (alot of migranes) to figure it out. I hope it helps.

I dont want a site people can post on, only what i want to share with a small group of folks....it all depends on how much space you use.
most cheap sites will limit that, and then if you have any videos or anything like that, if someone finds them, and likes them and posts them to say a motorcycle forum, then you go over your monthly download allowance, and they turn off the site till next month.
Bleh.
proglem with websites, is that they seem really easy, until you actually have to do one.

most of the mid level programs, like frontpage, dreamweaver, etc have learning curve,, but also great tutorials. the problem is, you spend a ton of time learning to make the site, and then it looks crappy, because you aren't a damn web designer, you're a dman mechaninc.

look at my site, people are always like "why is it so plain?"
because it takes two minutes to setup and add to, and it loads fast and works all the time.

i dont want fancy, i want functional.

the other problem, is if you want to host a lot of pictures, then you need something that has a thumbnail/gallery portion.
nothing worse than waiting for 25 big damn pictures to load on one page.....
:hung

something like everlast posted might work, but then again, how much bandwidth per month do you get?

this makes a big difference.
especially if you put a large number of big pictures or god forbid videos on it.

It's very simple....frontpage blows.
it writes crappy bloaty html code, and uses crappy semi-java shit for transforms, that won't work in any browser but IE.
That's why i hate it.

your site should be a base style sheet since there are no differences for each page,
that would load faster for all users, and work for all browsers.
but hey, not everyone wants to be a web guru.

so if it works use it.

just dont ever run a frontpage webpage through an html verifier. you'll shit at all the problems it comes back with...

Yahoo / Sitebuilder is set up for making thumbnail galleries. Pretty easy actually to do. As far as video, I usually have from 2 to 5 vid. clips under 5 minutes on mine. Haven't come close to hitting my bandwidth limit yet, but it's mostly just family and friends who view them. (BTW, I just noticed Yahoo does support Dreamweaver, Frontpage, etc) Here's what I get for $12 a month:

Monthly hosting fee $11.95
One-time setup fee $25

Product Highlights

Personalized domain name (www.your-business.com) -Yes
Business email addresses (you@your-business.com) -25
Disk space for storing content like images and media files -2GB
Data transfer (bandwidth) -25GB
Multiuser FTP for quick file upload -Yes

none of that is gonna help him if he cant use the tools provided..... :comperror

he doesn't need perl
he doesn't need php/sql (database)
he doesn't need subdomains
he doesn't need multi user ftp
he doesn't need a list serv (i'm surprised they still offer this R1Lover, mostly this just gets your domain ont ospam blacklists)
he doesn't need most of that.
but only 2gb of space is low, although 25gb throughput is good.

thats about what we charge, though you'll get somw other stuff, and miss some of that, for that price, but the biggest problem is still learning to actually make a page.

my suggestion?
screw it
get something like frontpage or dreamweaver (i prefer dreamweaver of the two) and start playing with it. see if you can even stand to learn to use it. You can make an entire website on your own computer and never have it hosted, it's just files on your computer.
no sense wasting money on something to find out you cant or dont wanna learn how to do it.

i hand code all my stuff on my computer and then move it to my site later.

(btw, i have both if you need them.......)

The problem I see is Wheatman will not spend enough time away from the beer and forums to allow him time to learn the software to build his site....
