Ok this has been going on for a while now and I have just worked around it but its getting frustrating as hell.

(windows XP pro)
It first started that my computer would randomly tell me "unrecognized USB device or device malfunction" something like that. SO I'd have to play musical chairs on the back of my computer plugging usb cables into different ports until it recognized it.... Now there are a few ports that just dont work all together so I bought a router and am running everything off 1 usb port that has survived. I then bought a PCI expansion card that had a couple USB ports and a firewire port.. Everything was fine until......

I ran microsoft movie maker and it woulnd't recognize my camera so I was messing aroudn with different combinations of , camera on, usb in, run movie editor etc. Finally I found the right combination and XP immediatly recognized the camera installed the software just like its supposed to. Then I tried "capturing video from device" and MMM froze up.... I had to restart and now my computer doesn't recognize my camera... the camera says "DV IN" on teh screen like it should but the computer doesn't know when its plugged in... So MMM says "device not recognized make sure its plugged in and turned on"

SOO FRUSTRATING!!!

ANY HELP??? I can live with the USB problem for now as its been fine but I want my firewire dammit.

Also,

Does this sound like a motherboard issue or XP issue?? If its a Mobo issue I want to replace the F'er.

If your XP Pro is not SP2 patched, then you must download the USB 2.O driver for your device, or you can just install SP2. Windows XP SP2 is included the USB 2.O driver.

I think you XP is not SP2, right?

Which camera do you have? Did you try going to their website and see if there is any special driver?

and it's not hard to replace motherboards, but it can be frustrating if you miss something.....

biggest problem on mobo's is making sure all the other hardware plays nicely with it.

easiest thing to do would be to replace it with the same model board... you won't have any problems this way... replacing a motherboard may seem a lil much if you've never done it before but it's pretty simple

^ will help you detect your motherboard model
