I just need something simple that will trace a jack to the switch. Apparently some of our jacks are mislabeled and my stupid boss wants to call the cabling guys whenever we run into one.
Nothing too expensive. Around $100? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, it's called a mobile/cell phone, a laptop and some feet...
person one stands at the switch, person two plugs/unplugs the laptop until you notice the light going on and off... to confirm, pull the jack out of the switch and ask them if they get disconnected...
sheesh :nannas

it's called a loopback.
one cable end with the wires setup correctly.
one guy plugs it in, the other sees the light come on at the switch
no computer needed.

cost? about $1.00
if you have the cable making tools and ends, or a little more if you just use a premade cable and rewire the end

do you guys not know the answer? :1pokeyou gotta create a loop on the other end, otherwise it's just wires with only a connection on one end.
so the loopback is required, all it does is simulate a connection
there are other tools but they also require plugging something into the other end and then toning the ens, so thats the answer

You need to buy a toner kit / used for network and phones. They work great!!!!! I couldn't live without one....
711K Tempo Tone and Probe Kit
Click here and scroll down http://www.datacomtools.com/catalog/tone-probe.html
About $100.00 for the whole kit..........

yep, one device plugs into the jack, the other will emit a tone when the correct other end of the jack is touched.
the problem is that it still requires someone moving the device on the jack end to each individual jack.
if you have the other end from the jack plugged into a switch, then the loopback will do the same thing without the expense.
