iPod Touch

http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/

Anyone have one of these yet? We just went to the Apple store today to check out all the toys, and these things are cool as shit! I've never been an Apple fan, and I love my Creative Zen media player, but damn do I want one of these things now. Super slim size...I could stack like 2.5 of these up beside my Zen. Full touchscreen and it works just as easy as it looks in the commercials. Turn it sideways and it automatically senses it and switches to widescreen mode. Awesome.

Only drawback (besides that its an Apple) is the price/memory. The 16Gb version is $400! My Zen is double that memory and cost less than half as much. The difference is the Apple uses flash memory to allow for the slimmer size, and mine uses a hard drive. I just cant seeing giving up so much memory for something that costs so much more. But still that is a sleek little toy. Maybe in a year or two when they increase the storage I'll have to save up and treat myself. Anybody already have one? Think its worth the money??

I want one for the wi-fi but yeah it's to expensive. For that price I would rather just spend more money and get the iphone

I think they are awesome but it pisses me off how Apple watered down some of the features like the calendar and such from what the iPhone has. For the price of that thing, why didnt they just make it a full functioning PDA? That would have been a must have in my book if they had.

third party aps will unlocked after February. so you can expect some cool programs to be available a few months after that. My wife got one and I liked it so much I bought my sister one and myself an Iphone.
In explanation of third party aps . right now Apple has things called web aps, but in reality they are web pages so in order to run webaps you have to be connected to wifi . In Feb Apple is set to unlock or open the door to developers .
no complaints on the Itouch . my wife replaced her palm with it, even though apple claims it is not designed to replace the pda It did in my wifes case.I use the calender-day planner every day myself.

unlike the iphone, I actually like the touch. It's a cool unit.
One problem with all Apple stuff though, they hard wire in the battery, so that means when the battery goes bad, you have to send it in to be removed and replaced.
I much prefer a removable battery pack.

It's not really "hard wired".... all you need is a screw driver...

I just hope the prices adjust over time. If 16gb flash drives cost $400 now, a 60 or 80 would be astronomical. But then again when 1gb mp3 players first came out they were outrageously priced too and now you can get them for 10 or 20 bucks on sale.

Just a guess, but I'd bet the majority of owners would probably be out of warranty coverage (1 year?) before they'd need a replacement battery.

I think the touch is sweet. I was amazed at the thickness! But I already have (and love) an iphone, and there isn't a reason to have a touch also.

KWcomp - the calender issue has been rectified with an update. I believe the calender now works identical on the touch and iphone.

Well, it came in the mail today. Daughter got one from her grandparents, the 16GB version. So now I'm on itunes trying to set this thing up and figure it out. I already told her NO internet, as I'm not paying for it

To bring back an old thread:

Picturing a 9-inch iPod tablet - Apple 2.0

Picturing a 9-inch iPod tablet
Quote:
Perhaps it’s because expectations are so low. Or maybe it’s because nobody really knows what’s going on with Steve Jobs’ health. But less than a week before the start of Macworld 2009, the lead story on Techmeme’s news aggregator Wednesday morning was about a device that Apple (AAPL) is reportedly readying for release next September, at its annual iPod event.

The mystery device is the long-rumored iPod tablet — an oversized iPod touch with a 7- or 9-inch screen. Three independent sources close to Apple — one of whom has seen and handled a prototype — tell Techcrunch’s Michael Arrington that Apple is talking to Asian suppliers about mass producing it for Fall ‘09.

According to Arrington:

“Apple has been experimenting internally with large form tablet devices for years, one source says, but there was concern that users wouldn’t like the device. The difference now is the iTunes app store, which has thousands of games and other applications that are perfect for a touch screen device with an accelerometer.” (link)

So what would the thing look like? If the image above represents a 3.5-inch iPod touch, an iPod tablet with a 9-inch screen might look something like this:
Here's another interpretation:

Thats only a photochop, but any guesses as to how much this iMonster will cost once they're produced? I'm guessing almost as much as a MacBook
