Cell phone SIM question

Whats the difference between the 2 different size sims? I want to use my AT&T sim in an unlocked T-mobile phone but the T-mobile phone looks like it takes a gigantic looking sim. What gives?

AFAIK, they are the same size. Which phone did you see that takes the gigantic sim? GSM sim cards should all be one universal size, unless there is another version that only T-Mobile uses?

According to this pic, they look the same size as the AT&T card to me. The sim card in the pic is still in the holder, back then some GSM phones hold the entire card + the holder together, but that's long time ago though.

I've always wondered why some companies (ATT...T-Mo) use sims cards and some (Verizon) dont. Whats the advantage/disadvantage to the company to use or not use a sim card??

the advantage is that by using non-standardized methods, you can't take your phone with you when you switch to a new company. Helps them to lock you in with them.

HAIL TO THE KING!!

Sort of,
phone companies that are GSM based, use SIM cards.
Cell phone companies that are CDMA based, do not.

This is one major advantage for GSM. You can take your (unlocked) phone anywhere in the world, pop in a local sim card, and it will become a local phone there.

GSM and CDMA are two different technologies.
In Canada, Rogers/Fido are GSM, and Bell/Telus are CDMA.

Can anyone recommend a website that will unlock it by IMEI?

I got screwed on one but it was only 8 bucks. They said some BS like 'your phone unlock code cannot be generated because it was not found in our database'. I should have know it was a scam because most sites charge 30-40 bucks.

My first phone was a bag phone..

The second was a mobile phone that was actually installed in my truck.. It was made by poineer back then and actually intra grated with my pioneer stereo too. Way cool for the time it was. (1990 ish)
