Internet on vacation?

Quick question...we're going up to PA for vacation on Wed and we'll be staying at my folks house there. I'll be taking my laptop and I was wondering if I can tap into their broadband connection there if they dont have a router? (just a cable modem connected to the pc) I can use my mom's computer if I need to, but I'd prefer to use mine, I just dont know how to temporarily gain access to her internet connection to do it. Its probably something simple right? I've just never had to do it before....any help?

Just take a cat5 cable with you, if they don't have a switch with an extra port then you will have to unplug one of theirs or add a switch...

Plug n play!

Cool....as much as I'd like to pack the wireless router I'm not sure if I want to carry the hardware. But I could always just get a cheap network switch at Circuit City or somewhere once I get up there. I could probably find a cheap one for 15 bucks or so. Thanks bro

plug and play i do it everytime when im up her with sarah, and when i go to the hotel, you might run into a connectivity issue once in a while like it only gives you partial access but usually its okay

Have a good vacation man!!

A switch may not work. Most ISP's only give you one IP, so a switch won't allow more pc's.
Some isp's, like cogeco give more then one ip on their standard, but not lite, service, so it would work.

worst case, unhook her pc, plug yours in. pull power to cable modem for 10 seconds, and once it syncs back up, you should be good.
Do same when switching back to her pc.

lol thats true

I'm not sure if her ISP allows for more than one IP or not. I guess worst case I can just unplug hers and reset the cable modem like Greenenvy said. Would be easy to just take my router but with the way the airlines are about baggage, even taking the laptop is a stretch.
