getting skinny update

Trying to think when was the last time I was in the gym......? Nov 06? Actually, things have been working out great. Yes, I am a weak arse but still doing pushups and stuff like that. I've just been running, and roadmarching. In the past week and a half I've roadmarched 5 miles, 9 miles, and ran 3 miles 3 times. My clothes don't fit because they are too big! :laugh

I was watching some of the "best ranger" competition on TV, these dudes were seriously cut up, and had endurance for days. That is where I want to be. Ranger school is 60+ days of pure hell, so I have to be ready. I need to be able to roadmarch 12 miles with a 75lb pack, and run 5 to 6 miles at a decent pace. I think if I can do that, I'll be in decent shape. I should be there by the summer.

Anyone else do any endurance type training? Any tips for success?

Daughter went with me on her bike for the last roadmarch, snapped a pic of dad in action

I looked up an old friend via whitepages on the Army website. This guy was in my unit back in 99, but went SF. Since then has done who knows what, but I know he has done the SF thing, airborne, ranger, etc etc...

He just emailed me quite a few tips. One of them is to alternate training times. Roadmarch at 5 am, then hit it again at 8pm, or run or something. Good advice!

IMHO Target Heart Rate Training is the best way to go. Get your self a Heart Monitor (like a running watch) and then establish your pace based on your target heart rate. You want to be 70%-75% (aerobic zone) of your calculated max heart rate. If your not already doing it that way, I bet you will find you need to pick up your pace to maintain your heart rate in the aerobic zone. Here is one link to some information, there is a ton more available on the net as well as some Heart Rate caculators.
