Exhaust cans for 98-01 Yamaha R1s

Alright guys, help me out. I'm planning on running the Akra again, but I'm open to options. Racefit? Growler? A cut down Akra? Just looking for input. Some of you have better access pics of these pipes.

man I really like the Growler, Racefit makes some killer stuff.......
don't they still make that MV-Agusta-like BlueFlame quad exhaust for the 98-01? I recall looking for one for my Champs Edition

A shortened Arata. A member has it down on his over on the R1F; and it looks mean as hell. I will try to find that picture tonight.

Some threads to look through Firehawk:

This is the one I would go with, but maybe in TI for your bike:

That racefit on the closest R6 looks TIGHT.

Not so sure about the one on the far R1. The midpipe runs too far back before going up for my taste.

Thanks for the links, Mayo.

Right now, the Akra header and midpipe are in great shape. I'm thinking about getting another CF Akra can, and cutting it down a bit. Not a lot, but just enough to make it look a bit more stubby. Only problem is I can't seem to find one in great shape on R1F, fleabay or anywhere else right now.

Keep the eyes open, guys.

Thanks in advance....

I think you should keep the mid and headers of the Akra, and get the Shortened Sato CF

alright...i found one.

anyone feel like doing a little photochopping? i gotta see what this pipe looks like first.

besides, they don't make them for 03 and below R1's, so I'd have to find something close. not really even sure which one would fit. guess i could scour the R1F to see if anyone else has had any luck. i'd LOVE to get that long lead-in pipe like this gixxer has....i really like that look.

they're supposed to be LOUD too.....hmmm.

I would go with the akra over any racefit product. that's just me though...or get a sato motogp canister and do the piping yourself back from your headers. I wouldn't put a racefit in the same catagory as an akra. the other option is to call kyleusa.com and go for a sato motogp canister.

already have the number, and calling in the morning. basically, just need to find out if they have a canister that will "come close" to fitting. i'll do the rest. after looking at the 60mm midpipe from the Akra, it already goes back fairly far. just need to keep the swingarm from bashing into the pipe. i'm sure Dan will know of someone who's made this work before....

not entertaining the racefits.

got a line on two Akras, but neither have replied to me. seems the r1 forum classified section is full of people who love to post adds, and never reply to them. i don't get it.

This is for an 06 R6 but it would be tight if you could make it work

Called Dan Kyle....looks like I'm going with the 300mm CF sato....

The headpipe and midpipe are Akra....think it would be silly to keep the Akra decal on the lower fairing? Always loved how that decal looked on the lower. Guess I'll have to start looking for a Sato decal....

Really stoked to see how this pipe is going to look!!!

that's badass, but i think i'll have better luck getting the sato to fit correctly. the 06 R6 pipe comes out in a totally different way. thanks tho, bro.

keep the decal if you want. yup, many more exhausts are better than the racefit stuff. Sounds like you're buying one that is better also Glad dan hooked you up

Seriously bro, one thing I have to consider is noise. From doing a bit of research, the Sato is LOUD. According to Dak, the Akra was just a shade louder than the full-length can.

However, the Sato looks better (more proportionate), and I think it's going to end up being a bit cheaper and get here faster. Gotta wait to see what Dak asks for the Akra. He'd be shipping from Canada, so there's all the taxes and customs bull we'd have to deal with.

YEC Akra would be right up the alley of the theme I keep with this bike.....rare bits.

Decisions....decisions......:
