Beavis' Track Bike Thread

I just came home with a 1999 ZX-6R. I picked it up for $2500. Its a little rough but I can fix that. I wanted a project bike anyhow. I will use this thread to update you's on my progress and latest pics.

Please no postwhoreing but would appreciate positive comments and any good input. This is a new endevor for me.

Enjoy

spend your time and energy (and money) on the motor being sound before you worry about anything else.

Motor and tranny sound fine. Remember I am not wanting to compete as of yet. Just want to set it up for the track and just have fun.

In no particular order...

1) fix the motor, make it reliable
2) get the suspension serviced and setup
3) track rubber
4) check calipers and brake pads, replace as necessary
5) replace ALL fluids, including wetter/distilled in the radiator and brake fluids
6) check chain/sprockets
7) front fender and a rattle can paint job

Project bikes are FUN...:

Near Future:
1. Have the motor checked out
2. Frame checked
3. Get your suspension tuned by a professional
4. Don't get into the mindset of making it pretty... keep mods functional.. for now.

Ordered plastic (race) today got new levers and rear swing arm spools. In a minuite ordering toby damper.

Next on list is...

chain, sprockets, frame sliders, windscreen, 1 clip on, grips, brake pads, brake lines (ss of course), slicks.

things for a mechanic to do. Jet it, saftey wire it, set up suspension, mount tires, fork seals.

And then pracice practice practice.

hopefully proper engine mounted sliders, not the "no-cut" ones right?
the no-cut ones on that bike mount using the fairing's little 6mm bolts, which snap off in anything but a driveway tipover.

I would keep the Gold paint on the bike, it will match your teeth very well

Congrats on the bike

Up date so far. Changed oil, drained coolant, tied up a few lose pieces, cleaned foam air filter.

Now Tomorrow.... Taking off brake lines and draining fluid. Taking off sprockets, replacing 1 front rotor(looks like someone tried to take off with a lock on it LOL)

And then just waiting on parts to arrive.

BTW anyone need some parts???(referring to last pic)
