Restoring a dynosaur...

Well after my brother finding a deal he couldn't pass up, we picked up his 1994 ZX7 with my trailer & began working on it...

Well, he began working on it... I'm more like the executive director :

Any ways... after sand blasting all the parts that were oxydizing from sitting out from time to time, and replacing some of the hard to find broken plastics, this is where we are at...

Just need a sprocket kit and we are hoping the carbs don't need a ton of work. (We need the bracket that goes across all the carbs to align them in place.

Pics...

Nice. I like to see older bikes being taken care of.

Fantastic work! ZX-7R was always one of my favorite bikes. Nice to see her in great condition.

Noice find. I like the looks of the paint sceme of the early 90's kawasakis. The ZX-7 is a monster. I test rode one one time a long time ago and I took it back to the dealer and said no thanks too fast for me. Now I ride a 205 hp NOS powered R1. But then I was like 20 and didnt need the power and the tickets :LOL

let us know on your progress

Is this not just a ZX-7 the R has a solo seat and a better clutch and engine does it not.
But good job all the same.

Cheers

The 7R was a track bike with lights... it had adjustments at the head & swingarm, taller 1st gear & closer gear ratios IIRC. Solo seat, better suspension & lighter pistons & rods... that is just a few of the many tweeks that made the 7r a better track bike than the 7.

This one is the ZX7... not the ZX7r.

Right now we are having trouble getting it started... we need to rebuild the petcock & test the fuel pump.

In the end... the bike will end up with a 94-97 zx9r motor. It bolts on to that frame and is good for about 120+RWHP & 60ftlb tq.

This is a ZX-7. I always loved the ZX-7R. I think that's what I posted. :

Sorry to revive an old thread but I am just getting to know the site and saw it for the first time. You did an awesome job as executive director, and your brother did an outstanding restoration on one of my favorite bikes. I am really a Gixxer guy at heart (I own 4 first gen bikes and 1 2nd gen), but this was one of the bikes I always wanted and never got a chance to own. Yet.

Well... I do have some updates...

We figured out the problem we thought was the carbs... it turned out to be the plug wires. Once we sorted that out & had all the cylinders firing, it was time to take it to a shop to tune the carbs, and that is what we did today.

So it will be on the road soon... videos & action shots to come later this month, we hope sooner.

It's been fun, I can't wait to ride it.
