636 to make a return?

No source for this so far, but I've heard rumours Kawi thinks dropping the 636 was a mistake, which means it might be coming back.

Thoughts?

In both business and current racing points of view, I don't think it's something feasible or worth doing... :corn

I'm all for it... as longs as it cranks out more low end torque than its peers. It would make for better usable power on the street... Otherwise, don't bother.

I'll 2nd the ZX-8 idea.... Make it light, make it crank out 140hp to the rear wheel & give it a nostalgic zx7 derived look...

That would score big with the Kawasaki loyal, and may make Suzuki up their displacement to 800 as well...

I don't know, but I love my 636. If they re-did the engine like they did for the 08 then i'd be all for it

Roger Lee seemed to like his 600 last year. Kawi is definitely doing something right.

750 or 800 would be the way to go...800 to mimic the gp bikes and then style it like a gp bike and i think it would be damn popular

It will never happen for production 800cc, unless MotoGP moves to another displacement.

MotoGP = prototype racing

Look at the D16RR, they only start shipping them when MotoGP is no longer 990cc.

Personally, I wouldn't want MotoGP turn into another WSBK category.

Displacement has nothing to do with being GP quality prototype or not.
The 2003 G1K was displacing only 988cc.

I couldn't understand why they changed it back to 600 in the first place...the 636 had more grunt than the other bikes (New Honda not withstanding)...

Yeah keep MotoGP boring... we wouldn't want it to be as exciting as WSBK & 125/250 GP is. And a street replica might do just that...

Yes you're right. Anyway, what I should have said is that MotoGP won't use production machines, there is no homologation required.

Why do you feel WSBK is that much more exciting than MotoGP? By the end of the race, even in WSBK, you'll be lucky to see more than 2 bikes fighting for the win.

People who think WSBK is much more exciting, I think they made their opinion based on the championship points. It's all hypes.

I just did a quick check on the last 12 (6 weekends) WSBK race results, only 1 of them the 2nd place finished within 1 second, the other 11 races, all of the 2nd places finished from +1.3 sec. to more than +5.5 sec. to the race winner... so tell me, what makes WSBK more exciting than MotoGP? Closer racing?

Most of the WSBK races I watched this year were very tight the majority of the race, with a leader only breaking away in the last couple laps when the other guy gave up or his tires crapped out. It certainly was closer racing the MotoGP this year.

I do prefer motoGP though, no contest. GP racing is just cooler.

You see that same with MotoGP, people normally start to fall back when the guy gave up or when the tires crapped out. Don't forget each WSBK race is much shorter than a full MotoGP race. In MotoGP, for the first half of the race, people are pretty tight too.

Also, when you say most of the WSBK races are pretty tight, but how many riders are actually fighting at the front each race? Anyway, my point is, WSBK is not that much more exciting, imo it's pretty much the same when you compare beginning of the race, mid race, and the end of the race.
