Ducati 1200 '916' for 07 ?

April 5 2006
Ducati 1200 '916' for 07
Ducati has gone back to the 916 to inspire the 1200 V-twin it hopes will even up the fight with Japanís four-cylinder 1000s.
Expect a return to a single-sided swingarm, twin exit pipes and horizontal twin lights when it is officially unveiled later this year.

No way they are going back to a sssa. Fogarty was testing them when he was with them. The migration to a dssa had to do with weight and flex.

I think you will see a softer looking new 999 with ques of the old. If you think they are rehashing a 916 I dont agree...

My mods are ghey...

I'm willing to bet that if Ducati brought back the 916 design with some very minor tweaks, and stuffed a 1200 cc v-twin in there it would sell like hotcakes. The 916 design is legendary

Is it just me? or that bike is the same as before with single sided swing arm.

Ducati should do a complete redesign. The big four in Japan can do a new design every two years. The Italians should get their crayons out, and start fresh.

How well do hotcakes sell?

I do agree with you the the 916 design is legendary, but it is starting to get dated.

I think both these photochops are FUGLY

I hope we see mild 999 evolution, not 916 retro

The italians can barely keep their collective heads above water when it comes to running a motorcycle business......

Check the history of how many of the Italian Marquee names have been sold not once, not twice but a minimum of three times in the last 20 years.....

(here's a hint.......at least 3....including Ducati)

Ducati was Dominating WSBK with the 851/888 bikes yet couldn't give them away in the States...
out comes the 916 (aka Sex on Wheels) and amazingly they kept the Cagiva version of Ducati afloat for at least 4 years...long enough to allow the purchase by the Texas Based investment group (i've forgotten the name) which then sold it off to float it as a public company.
Noiw they have stockholders (who don't give a rat's ass about racing unless it makes them dividend money) to report too, and sales of the 999 are dismal compared to the 916/955/996 which predated it.

I rode a 916 once and I didn't realy care for it. It was old and ragged so that may have been part of it. overall I wasn't taken aback by the machine. It didn't feel any better than my 750, infact I liked mine more.

if you're not into twins, then a Ducati Will NEVER feel like "all that" too you.

i rode a bimota DB2 (Ducati air cooled two valve motoered) and thought "no big deal" compared to the beefed up Honda Hawk i was riding at the time as far as power and handling (yes the hawk had some extensive mods). However I would never put them in the same class based solely on exclusivity and componentry....

however, most of the 916/955's i sold, were to middle-aged people who also owned Harley's (like R1Lover) and other "cruisers" and had usually at least two other bikes to ride...

they also usually paid cash.

and didn't haggle much on the price....

and didnt ride it to near it's potential

which is why they bought them
looks sell bikes to many people.......
