Arrow The new Ducati 1098 replaces the 999 !! Spy pictures !

Check this out

Quote:

This is Ducati proprietary dealer info, NOT rumor or speculation! Straight from the 08/24/06 dealer meeting... I saw the packet with pics and specs!

Have paper pics only; none in jpg, etc. to post. Source wanted me to see them, but not post them. I will try to get some in an uploadable format.

All models have a 1099cc engine, but are designated 1098 (for fear of association with the IRS 1099 tax form - REALLY!).

Three Models-
$14,995 - 1098 Base: 160hp/80+tq
$19,995 - 1098S: adds carbon bits and Ohlins suspension pieces
$24,995 - 1098 Tri-Colore: adds race exhaust in the crate, red/white/green three-color paint
(Pricing is preliminary and may change slightly)

Styling somewhat similar to Desmosedici RR, but with longer, sharper front fairing and featuring dual headlights; New dash design; Single-sided swingarm; Dual oval underseat exhaust; Weight reduction of 37.5 pounds; Monoblock radial-caliper brakes w/330mm discs.

All 1098 models will come configurable as mono and biposto. Base model outperforms 999R!!

Ducati will NOT campaign the new bike for the coming AMA season; instead skipping a year for potential rule changes.

Official debut will be at Milan in November, with deliveries expected to begin in February.

why did they go back to the swing sided swingarm? I think it looks cool but I thought they swtiched because it wasn't rigid enough. super cool bike though!!

I don't know about you guys but the wheelbase looks long?.?.?. Maybe it's because the seat is sooo short and the cans extend beyond it.

Anymore specs on it??

Sad thing is that Ducati basically slashed the base price of every 1098 by $5k under what it's 999 counterpart sold for in 2006. That effectively makes most 999's worth about half of what someone paid for them just a couple of months ago. That's a 20% hit sticker to sticker. Way to throw us loyal owners under the bus! :storm

I think I'll wait for the "actual" release...

I'm sure people will bitch and moan about the way it looks, but I really hope they don't bastardize the old 916 look. Needs to stay in the past. Hope they come up with something new.

the single sided swing am kinda throws me off. I have mixed feelings on it. I sure hope that they know something we don't, and it's not just there for looks, other wise they just sold their superbike teams up shit creek. Assuming that it'll even be legal in superbike class.

Funny how they're totally regarded as "the company with racing at it's roots" and yet they're putting out bikes based on looks, not performance. You have to wonder how much they're riding Ferrari's coattails (ya! we're Italian and red too!)

HAIL TO THE KING!!

It's the trend these days I guess, Harley came out with the V-Rod a few years back, the cheapest you could get one was about 22K. Now you can pick up a brand new one for 16K or so.

It sucks when you buy at the higher prices and then the retail goes down the next year. I'm in the same boat, although I'm not worried about it as Im not selling my bike so it doesn't matter.

Lol! Yeah - *sigh*

Everything moves upwards and onwards right? If the "R" model comes out a year later at 1200cc's it's going to be pretty sick.

Junior's right. They ride Ferraris coat tails to an extent. My S is in front of my office building right now. All day long people wander over to it & linger around. It def has they eye candy appeal. On paper it doesn't measure up to some bikes like the new Gixxer 1k but in the seat it's a completely different bike. Depends a bit on your riding style & what you like etc.

Personally I'd live to have both
