Spaghetti Ride pics...didn't rain!

Hey guys,

Here are pics of a shop ride I did today. Figured a few of you might enjoy a few of these.

This is my father-in-laws shop, in National City, Ca. He's been there for 51 years, and sells Ducati, Moto Guzzi, Norton, Vincent, you name it. For 26 years now, the October Spaghetti Ride has been a tradition. We meet at the shop at 9am for coffee, take off at 10 for the ride. We come back around noon, and the women have spaghetti and lots of food ready for us. Usually have around 15-20 riders, and 15 showed this year. Good times. Lots of family, lots of fun.

I rode tail-end charlie today, because of how shreaded my rear tire is....then it started raining! Came down real light, but it was enough to worry a bit.

My father in law has helped me to develop an appreciation for classic bikes. He raced for years, finishing 3rd in the 1960's to Mike Hailwood at a Willow Springs race. He also holds a few records at the Bonneville Salt Flats. He still has every single bike he ever owned.....

Enjoy!

You can call this pretty much the most interesting mix of bikes for a ride...

We had Honda, Yamaha, BMW, Moto Guzzi, Norton, BSA, Suzuki, Ducati, and even a Harley (he was the slow dude I had to follow all the time).

Here's a few of his Vincent Black Shadow.

Hasn't been started since the mid-80's. He rode it at Bonneville once, and there it sits.

Talk about a family heirloom!

So....

Around 1963, he custom made one of the first inline-4 cyclinder motorcycles, with a 4 cylinder car engine shoehorned into a Norton frame. He tried selling the idea to Norton, and they brushed him off, saying nothing would ever come of the design.

Roughly around the same time, Honda came out with the CB....and went on to make a fortune with the World's first production inline-4.

Norton went bankrupt.

If you didn't notice, I said I spent the WHOLE day behind a Harley. I wasn't out for a fast-paced ride by ANY stretch of the imagination. She had quite a bit of grip left, just not for the track at 170mph.

Didn't have another set of tires to mount up.....and I rode accordingly.

His shop also restores old bikes.....

Here's a Vincent that showed up in four cardboard boxes a year ago.

You can't just get parts for these things thru Parts Unlimited. She's coming together nicely. :

Sweet pics Mark. I've been thinking of picking up some of the more classic rides myself. My old man has a couple old CB's. He's especially proud of his CB550. I was trying to find a pic of his but can't. I rode it once it's not too bad. He always telling me that if it wasn't for that bike I wouldn't be riding a sportbike as it's the "original sportbike".

Just blows me away sometimes that they were still going 140mph+ in the 60's, on really REALLY lowsy tires!

We've come a LONG way!
