no shit...who the hell misses a 17 foot crack???

scratch one 45 million dollar satellite

or the ones who missed all of the crack on the C-130 airframes.....


and i was in fla for that launch and saw it blow....

i know how closely i look over EACH blade before i fly....my ass in the seat.

i find cracks all the time, but it's when we're on the GROUND.

besides, most modern helicopters have a blade inspection method...quick way to look for damage. center spar is nitrogen filled, and trips a visible alarm when the nitrogen leaks out thru a crack.

explosion must have been incredible...

THAT is good engineering, 'gives you a damned good idea where the crack is too! gas it up and listen for the hiss.

actually, you'd never know. most cracks in a blade that would let the nitrogen out are miniscule. also, the titanium bladders are buried deep within plies of honeycomb and fiberglass. can't even see them.

our blades are only filled with about 10psi of nitrogen....not enough to hear any kind of hiss.

i agree.....very cool stuff
