Well, if you just want it for commuting, then it's a nice bike for that.
But if you want to take it to the track sometime, then i would go with an R6 instead (same year).
I don't know how much a 2001 F4i would cost there, but have you checked if that's a good price?
For how much can you buy a 2001 R6 there?

4k for an 01 is a pretty good price, if it's in great shape. the f4i makes a great commuting bike. i do believe they still sell the f4i overseas as a sport/tourer, as well as the 600rr for sport riding. r6 was a pretty damn good bike too, and you can find them for about the same price for that year.

good bike
durable
lots of em around for spares
easy to work on
kinda heavy, but real stable to ride
turns slower than an R6 of the same year
fit and finish should be excellent if it was maintained.

not a bad deal, depending on condition and mileage.
check for tires, chain/sprockets, blown fork seals.
and lastly, check around the front of the swigarm where it bolts to the bike, if it's clean inside there (in front of the shock body) it was probably well maintained.

same here now...the f4i is a great learning bike for you bro...easy to ride..comfortable...gets you used to the sensation of leaning which franly the first few rides feel very unnatural....and usually dimsensia set in after your first couple of rides....the more upright touring style of this bike helps cobat this to some level. (the aforementioned dimensia is a weeaving brought on by a euphoria..high excitement gland type thing...imagine going into a cage fight and kicking the shit of everyone and walking out the best fighter ever...kinda like that)

its a awesome bike from the sounds of it

Also check for wierd rattling in the motor (sounds like a bunch of bb's or sand rattling around) thats the cam chain tensioner goin (or gone) bad, I had it go out on my 01, and the early F4i's are notorious for it.

Ugly, slow, heavy and boring, i'm very serious!! I have a few friends who have own this bike and they all share my opinion. Buy a R6, it's like night and day.

Bro - were going to be so happy for you when you finally get a bike...

The R1 would be good if it's not too beat up....

I believe G has been schooled with enough info to smart enough to learn at a correct pace....IE...dont punch it in first right off the line.

if the r1 is in better shape than the f4i enginewise....I would shoot for it...besides you should be savvy enough from the forums to know if its worth it or not.

hmm....makes me wonder what mines worth if a rashed r1 is getting 3500

Ah... this will be your first bike offset? (i thought you had one already).
If it's your first bike i say get the F4i or an R6 if you find one in the same price range.
