Do you think they should rebuild?

The flooded areas are mostly poor and black as the richer people live on higher ground that was not flooded.

So should the flooded areas be rebuilt?

I think not as it would cost to much to rebuild the infrastructure let alone upgrading the the dikes to Cat 5. Why rebuild when you cannot protect against Cat 4 storms. However the rest of the city seems to be fine so its not like New Orleans is wiped from the face of the map.

I dont think they should, but they will... People will sing that same stupid song "its our home!" Screw that, my home is wherever I choose to live at the time. I could pick up from here and move 1000 miles away and not miss a thing.

Just like the people that rebuild trailer parks in Florida after they have been wiped out for the 4th time by hurricanes.

My statement to them is: go ahead, rebuild...but when the next hurricane comes in 10 years and once again wipes out everything don't say we didn't warn you...

Also: There is nothing man can build that can withstand the full force of nature's fury.

Trailer parks? Did you see-dateline NBC report? Million dollar homes get rebuilt every time a hurricane comes through and its on your dime,

10 years? well one can hope. Most scientists are now predicting Cat 4 storms will hit US shores much more frequently.

Yea, 10 years is generous... What about insurance for those million dollar homes? Who pays that? You have to think that for someone to live in an area like that, their insurance has to be really high (ie:the outer banks of North Carolina)

No the areas are declared federal disaster areas so your tax dollars pay for millionaires to rebuild not once but every time they get knocked down

Yup..........Sad but true.

These people should have been told years ago.

"Hey........we will re-build you a home once.........if it happens again............sorry but it's your dollar."

Why should everyone else have to pay the price just because they wan't to live there. BS.

Maybe I will pack up and move there just so I can get a free home every year......... courtousy of R1 Galdiator, R1Lover, Sinister, Corey, etc etc etc.

The entire area is a natural flood zone. It was not meant to be inhabited by anything that does not have gills

Don't rebuild....

even if they do rebuild they will change there mind when a Cat 4 or 5 storms comes there way. It will happen and scientists are saying its 42% probability of the gulf generating another cat 4 or 5 in the near future. If they were smart they should restore the area to bayou as that would be a storm buffer.
