Cake Disaster

So, last week was my wife's B-day. My daughter and I decide to make a cake for her, I mean really how hard can it be? You cook the stuff, spread some icing on it and call it good! So it would seem.......

Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned.

Having actually made quite a few large and decorative cakes (including 1 wedding cake) i can tell you, baking the damn cake is the easy part.

people never realize exactly how hard the decoraqting part is until you go to do it yourself....

i'd rather do just about any other type of cooking then cake decorating again......

leave that shit to those people at the stores who do it all day long if you want it to look great.
otherwise it's chocolate glaze and pour it over till covered and let set!

Nice job! It's really hard to decorate without the proper tools, space, and time.

I've been playing around in the kitchen with cake decorating for 7 years now. I worked as a cake decorator for a year and a half after I got laid off as an aircraft mechanic.

This is my 2001 ICES competition cake. White standard cake/ buttercream/ and rolled fondant

Everything is edible with the exception of the support structures and the shells on top.

I placed 5th for my category.

I think it is awesome! The time, effort and bonding with your daughter...as to your wife... if you don't cook often... you gave her a gift that will last a lifetime.. long after the cake is gone, the kitchen is cleaned up... and the dentist is paid for... :laugh Good Job......
