Thumbs up Google Earth program

This is really wild, satelite imaging of the earth from space, for the public & its free

You can literally type in an address anywhere on earth and get images from a satelite in space. You can zoom in to see houses, cars, trees & shrubs.

You can even look at it in 3D and rotate (tilt) the plane your viewing it in. Its really amazing how clear the resolution is, especially in citys, pin point the builds your in view parking lots & vehicles.

Here's the link to download the free program- http://earth.google.com/

I downloaded it once before and got an error message upon trying to install it. Not sure why....I'll have to try it again I guess.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200. Nowhere near top of the line, but games aside, this would be the first thing I've run into problems with.

I found the solution on their website:

If you are attempting to upgrade or install Google Earth, you may receive an error code containing the terms -5003, -5009, -6002, or -6009 during the installation process. This is usually due to an older version of the installation software on your machine.

To successfully complete the installation process, please follow the steps below:

1) Open the folder located at C:\Program Files\Common Files.
2) Locate a folder called Installshield.
3) Right click on the folder and click the option "Rename".
4) Rename the folder to something like "Installshield_OLD".
5) Close the folder and try to re-run the installer.

I did that and it installed instantly for me. Damn, what a cool program this is! You could spend hours playing with this! lol

Like I said, I tried installing in when I first heard about it, I just couldn't get it to install. This thread peaked my interest again...

Here's another with pretty decent resolution in SOME areas, but not all. Not as cool as the google program either: http://terraserver.microsoft.com/default.aspx

I've posted this before too, but still pretty cool: http://triton.tpd.tno.nl/gigazoom/delft2.htm

bit comet is a client.
the protocol is called bit torrent.
again been around for a long time.
microsoft even uses the protocol for windows updates and most Linux distibutions are downloadable this way.
