what to do?

I will be coming home the first week of April.....

Everybody that leaves Iraq travels thru Al Udied AB, in Qatar....

The second round of MotoGP is in QATAR on APRIL 8th!

HOWEVER, my son's second birthday is April 12th....

I will probably never get back here again, as I transfer in August to a new squadron. I might make it home by April 12th, but I can't be sure. After missing my boy for 4 months, I really want to see him.

I'm so torn right now......

yea, i know jimmy.

that's what i'm going to do....but i really would love to see a gp race where the crowds are small. i doubt i'll ever get back to qatar again.

family means so much to me.....it's actually a pretty easy choice.

not to be insensitive but assuming everyone at home is in good health what's an extra couple days to have an experience of a lifetime?

surely your son and wife would understand.

And can you go to the GP and be home on the 12th?

Honestly...If my Dad were in a situation like that were he could stay a few days longer and witness something that he loved I would be MAD at him if he didn't take the oppertunity to do so.

possibly. it all depends on the travel arrangements. that flight would take 2 days easy, if i hit all the connections perfectly. if i have to travel by government transport, there's no way. that's WAY too unpredictable.

they are healthy, but the wife would probably be hurt since i've been gone for 4 months, and stop to goof off on the way home. she would understand, but you know how a woman would react to that.

anyway, i still need to get approval from my squadron to go running around an arabic city in the middle east. might not be a good idea anyway....no matter how safe it seems.

I've gotta agree, especially since you've been gone for 4 months already. Just my .02.

a part of me says family first, BUT on the other hand at 2 he won't remember in a few years and you can always have a bday a few days later. but all in all, talk to your wife as her opinion trumps all of ours

dude, I've been there and can honestly say if I was in your position........MOTOGP first!

Its only a couple days man, dont feel guilty about it. You'll have your family for years to come, but to see the GP in April...well that wont happen to often

see, you gotta cut that part out of the equation. just tell the wife you got bumped from the manifest and have to wait a few more days, so you are going to see the GP races in the mean time.

She has two choices:
1-deal with it
2-deal with it

Go to the Race................. the only right decision...

It's just another day..... you can celebrate his birthday when you get home... just throw him a party after you get back. After that he will forget you were not even there on his actual birthday.... after he is only two years old....

At two years old, kids don't even know why they are having a party.... lol

I would say the same.... the ideal if you could watch the race and be at your son Birthday.. but first and most important talk to the wife first explain to her what you really feel like doing and ask her for her opinion on that ...
To be honest i think she will understand ….
That’s what I do… at least when you go watch the race your conscious will be good

Go for It mark, when your boy gets older he will understand. Your wife on the other hand won't but she'll get over it.

My .02.... If your wife was towards the end of her pregnancy, I'd say get home asap. Seeing as how that's not the case, I'd probably try to go if I were you. Not like you're going to take an extra month to get back. And you may never get the chance again. If you still can't decide, let the wife know how you feel....she may not have a problem with it.

this is what I tell myself every time I buy a new bike... its like those stages that women go through.

I come home with a new bike:
1-Anger
2-Disappointment
3-Grief
4-Acceptance

All in the course of a couple days...: I told my wife owning 7 bikes in the course of 5 years is perfecly normal....everybody does it :r1budha

ok back to the subject. whatcha gonna do Mark?

Well....I want to go to the race.

Unfortunately, there's an issue....travel in Qatar is limited to "official business", according to my leadership. Not sure who I have to talk to or what I have to do, but I'll figure it out. I'll keep you guys up to date.
