I don't know about doing that in the next year and a half, but I'd bet they'll get it eventually. If you would've told someone 100 years ago about what scientists have accomplished over the past 50 years, it would have sounded to them just as far-fetched as cloaking sounds to us now.

Also goes the negative (one of my hypothesis's), that if you bend light around the object, then the object in question would see the outside world as pure black, unless of course only certain light frequencies were adjusted for cloaking, so as to give some visual relationship to the outside world, so the object could move.Thus you may have the Predator (the movie) type shimmer. My guess would be not to bend the ultraviolet or infra red spectrums, still invisble naturally to the naked eye, but with the right lenses/equipment, practical.
