therefore it is highly unlikely that you heard about it "a while ago"....
and the Death of Fidel Castro will be a HUGE story across the world.
After all, you're talking about a man who nearly single-handedly gave the USA the finger for almost 50 years and did things his way, despite pressure from the outside, the inside and anyplace else you can think of.
His death would be a major blow to dictators who wish to do the same, as they would no longer have a longstanding symbol to point to.
Who are they going to point to?
Venezuela's President? Not hardley.
The USSR? oops.
China? Uhhh think again.
Europe? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Stop it.
Face it, despite what people think about him, he has balls, and the ability (through mostly non-viloent means) to keep the country under control and running (sort of).
If he dies, and IF Cuba becomes a free country, the amount of money that people and companies are willing to invest in there would dwarf any other vacation spot in the world.
Abu Dhabi? leave it to the sand......
Bahamas? Second Rate.
The climate, history, and most importantly willingness of the local people to actually WORK dwarfs anything a tourist area has seen in 50 years.
It would become a mix of Vegas, hawaii, Paris, the best parts of the Med, and would do all that in a country that would be at once both new and full of the latest conveniences, adn old with as much history as much of Europe.
It would be very big.
And Fidel knows it, and so do the rest of the people in the government.
