both brands are very good. i use to collect them, but i had al mar and pretty upper end knives. got some with serial numbers that came right after the seals got their knives from al mar. since he died a while back the new owner kind of jacked up the company though.

benchmade and sypderco are awesome though...can't go wrong with either

154CM is awesome steel grade, holds an edge, sharpens easy and is really stiff. Great stuff.

Axis lock is pretty much accepted as the best on the market, if you can afford it I would go for a BM over any other brand.

spyderco's are great knives, but not really the same price catagory or class as the BM's

HAIL TO THE KING!!

it's verbotten 'cause it's an auto. the BM 710 is a similar knife but manual opening, should be legal just about everywhere.

two benchmades... love them. I've never held the one you are looking at, but the quality, durability, finish, etc of benchmade is awesome.

Gerbers quality has gone WAY downhill lately, I used to be a Gerber posterchild, owned one since I was maybe 7 or 8 years old, I still have one left, but my everyday carry is a CRK&T now, I just use the gerber for "dressy" occasions, as it's nicer looking and smaller, alot less intimidating (and alot less practical too, but whatever)

My fave kind of knife:

You can use it to chop down branches of varying thickness
Make sandwiches
Slaughter animals/fish
Prepare meals
Open cans
There's so much more

I think most of them have blades between 10 and 30 cm
