What's Your Worst....

Thanksgiving ever?

Thought it'd be more interesting to flip it around.

The one where I was going from Florida back to Iowa to visit my grandparents and the rest of the family.

Mom and Dad, and I were all trying to get back one last time before my grandmother passed away...

we failed to make it by two days

oooo... that is a bad one. Late "my condolences" Budha.

I asked the question because one girl in my office is complaining up a storm about this weekend. black friday this, stupid turkey that, family making me go out of my way, blah, blah.

The law should exclude a bitch slap as assault.

it was nearly 10 years ago, but thank you.

yes having lost one grandparent at thanksgiving, and then the other several years later near christmas...i feel that anybody who thinks the holidays are a hassle, doesn't usually know how good they have it.

I'd pretty much give anything for one more with any of them.

I guess mine was when I cancelled a flight to see my parents for a 2nd interview for a job. The damn interview only took 20 minutes and they told me that it's just a formality.. they were going to offer me the position anyway. Since I thought I was going to be out of town, I hadn't made any other arrangements. Sat at home eating spaghetti with a pulled back muscle.

the job ended up being the worst job I ever had and I left the company 6 months later.

When I still lived with my folks the brush covered hill behind our house went up in a fireball. We were all evacuated, couldn't take anything cause it happened so fast. (BTW I saw the smoke and my father called the FD that was just 2 blocks away) Several of my neighbors houses caught fire. All of my family was showing up, Aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. we weren't allowed back in for 4 hours. My mother had turned off the oven with the turkey in it when we left, so by the time we got into the house the bird was done perfectly. (best one we ever had )My family had a lot to be thankful for that year, nobody was hurt because of the fire, and nobody lost a house, just a few scorched roof tops.

Well, I haven't really had a bad Thanksgiving. Sure I've been away from home for some but that's a given. I did (similar topic) have a pretty lame Christmas and New Years once. It was 1996 and I had just arrived in Germany as a new private. I was in the reception building in Frankfurt, and a huge snowstorm hit, so I couldn't go anywhere for a week or more. There I was, stuck in a room with a bed and a wool blanket, didn't know anyone...bored out of my mind.

After a few days this old school sergeant, who was in the same predicament I was in linked up with me, and told me about this "red light" district that I absolutely had to see. So, we hopped a cab just to "observe" what was happening at said "red light" district. For a 19 year old, it was quite the eye opener... Things got better from that point on...
