Was this guy even ever in Iraq? He said:

"Doc Block: What are the images from Iraq that will stay with you for the rest of your life?

Orth: Mostly death and destruction like everyone else but also the happy kids that can now play in the streets safely, sitting down and eating lunch or dinner with an Iraqi family, but most of all, the friends and brothers I made. "

And that's not what's happening at all in Iraq. I have two friends, one a scout-sniper himself and one who just finished a full tour not 2 months ago and they said things are horrible. There is no sitting down with an Iraqi family because no one wants to be associated with the Americans since the Americans on average spend 5 minutes in any given area while the insurgents are there the other 23 hours and 55 minutes. Either this guy didn't go, or he is so stupid that he actually buys the government propaganda.

And you have been there?

Who is your Scout Sniper friend? It is a small community, I know him or know someone who knows him.

From my EXPERIENCE, I would go with what was written.

Saw it last night. Inflated or not, I think it was an awesome story. not focused on slinging mud or screaming hallelujah.
It really just centered on the human element of our combatants.

I have a friend that just finished sniper training with the 101st Airborne. He told me that his six month stint in Iraq was really really boring.

everybody has "friends"....

why don't we just leave the stories to the people that have actually been there.

i ain't doubting this guy. even if he embellished, he was there.

everyone has different experiences, depending on where they were. someone in downtown b-dad is going to have a different experience than someone in al asad....way out east.

just because someone said it was boring for where they were at doesn't mean it wasn't exciting somewhere else.

i DO know iraqi civilians in kirkuk and mosul were WAY more friendly than civvies down around baghdad.

That's the definition of Combat: Long periods of boredom broken up by moments of sheer terror.

This is why you see all those "Complacency Kills" signs all over Iraq.
