Over 30?...or almost there?

I LOVE THIS ONE ....
If you are over 30, this will be hilarious!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning...uphill BOTH ways...yadda, yadda, yadda.

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But now that...

I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia! And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter...with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like "Space Invaders" and "asteroids" and the graphics sucked ass! Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just screwed!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels and there was no onscreen menu and no remote control! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!

You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up. We had to use the stove or go build a frigging fire, imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid JiffyPop thing and shake it over the stove forever like an idiot.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled.

You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980!

Regards,
The over 30 Crowd

Yep, that's pretty true.

It's sad to see some of the kids these days....

wow......memories. I'll be 30 this year

I agree with how fatass kids are these days. Also, remember the "U" channel on your Tv? Or rabbit ears with aluminum foil? Or Roos with the little pocket on the side for your change? Or Thriller? Or when going somewhere with your friends meant you rode a fucking bike like miles to get there, not ushered by mom. Or what about trying to record shit off of the radio on your tape deck, and getting pissed off when the DJ said something during the song! Lest we forget school and the Apple IIE........Oregon Trail bitches!!

Oh man, this is a great thread.

member's only jackets

White linen blazers with pastel color t-shirts underneath for that macho "Miami Vice" look

Two words.... "jungle Juice"

Recording movies off of HBO on SLP mode so you could get three on a video tape......

One Word...... "BetaMax"

If you wanted Porn.....you better steal it yourself, or have a relative or friends dad that hid it under the mattress

printers used INK RIBBONS nad had these big ass wheels in them with all the characters on them.....
and the paper had holes along both edges that you had to tear off by hand before you could hand it in for homework......

THE source of information wasn't google or Wikipedia, it was Britannica or World Book.

if you wanted to go to "the mall" it required a bus ride (and three transfers) or walking your ass there.

your car stereo required you to GUESS where the next song started on the TAPE.

Oldsmobiles were cool...(at least 442's were)

if you owned a truck, it was because you had to tow shit, or haul it around on a regular basis, not because it was "in".

you didnt want anything that said "honda" on the side, unless it had only two wheels.

NO, you didnt have a tv in your bedroom........

if you wanted to rent a particular movie, you hoped THE copy of it was at the rental store.

you didnt feel the need to know what a celebrity did every minute of their life, and if they were gay, it didnt matter to anyone, because we also didnt feel the need to know about it.

Celebrities didnt blame everything on "the pressure of being famous"

Velcro WAS acceptable as a means of holding your shoes on your feet.

The only "High-tops" were Chuck Taylor's.

Basketballs, Footballs, soccer balls, were made of leather. Rubber and synthetics were for those pussy ass red balls used in dodge ball.

The collers on the polo shirts WERE meant to be up.

Coke rugby shirts WERE cool.

and on and on and on and on................

The quality of Sailors we're getting these days is getting worse and worse. Disrespect, lack of drive, no will for responsibility, and they want everything handed to them. Welcome to the myspace generation.

Sad.

My first computer was an atari 800xl. And it only cost me $88 at K-Mart. It didnt have a hard drive and if you were rich you could have a dick drive or if no $$ for a disk drive than you had a tape recorder to save programs or paly stuff. It could have a modem and you had to put your phone in to it to operate and highspeed was 9600baud. 9600bytes per minuite. I had neither. I would spend hours on the computer typing in programs like this.

10 print "motomummy rules'
20 goto 10

and it would just keep running motomummy rules all the way down the screen LOL

Also I rode my bike everywhere my parents wouldnt drive me anywhere.

The "cool" gamer systems was the Atari 2600 and the Celeco Vision and the Intellivision.

When I was in HS I had a Sega Master System and "Hang On" was the only bike game.

The Apple IIe was the computer system of choice.

If you were rich enough to have cable then you have 30 channels. And if you had the 30 button switch box you could press 2 buttons at the same time and get the playboy channel in B&W and scroll.

And tapes were cool and so were walkmans.

After HS cellular phones were permantly installed in you car. I had a permant install in my 86 fiero and I was the coolest.
