Mayweather ran the whole fight. Hmmmmmmm, ran the whole fight , ran his mouth all the way up to the fight , maybe he should take up Marathons. De La Hoya was robbed.

exactly
this was about how they could set up the rematch for even more money......

let's guess
De la Hoya will win the rematch, so mayweather wont be perfect anymore meaning he needs ANOTHER rematch to get revenge for the defeat, and then who cares on the third (and hopefully last) one......

its called milking the public, and it's all boxing is interested in anymore.

Do any of you guys know anything about boxing?

Oscar got outboxed by a mile. This is what Mayweather does, he is one of the greatest of all time at doing this. He lacks power, but his speed and defense are some of the best ever.

Oscar landed 20% of his punches. Mayweather landed 50%.

The only thing that saved Oscar to keeping this close was his corner flurries, that which maybe landed 2-3 punches out of those 10+ attempts.

Maybe yall should just stick to UFC. Boxing isn't about beer brawlers.

Oscar couldn't finish Mayweather off even with his weight advantage.

And no, there will most likely be no rematch. B/c Mayweather has said he is retiring.

I wouldn't say it was boring, but the pre-fights were very good.

yes, and there is NEVER anything "suspect" with punchstat numbers....

and Boxing Judges HAVE NEVER made obviously questionable or basically wrong decisions.

and Mayweather has already backpedaled (last night actually in the post fight interview) and said he will "probably fight again, if the fans ask for it".....

and i can pretty much bet that i not only have seen more boxing matches, I've also spent more time in the ring with "qualified" instructors (including a multi-time gold gloves champion).

That is boxing. It has always been that way. And since you say that you spend time in the gym, then you should have reaized Mayweather controlled that fight from the start. Oscar had a few good rounds, but that is pretty much it.

Yes, I have been doing it on and off for most of my life. It's a great sport if you have the time. Definately a lost art.

Oh really? You mean he didn't do enough by stepping UP a weight class, using HEAVIER gloves, and still landed 4 times as many counter punches, more evasion, an insane landing percentage, and 85 total more punches landed; Controlled the tempo of the fight, and picked his punches and attack angles with the exception of 3 or 4 rounds all while being outweighed and out powered...

Answer me this, if Oscar didn't have his head-lowering blind flurries, to which he landed about 10% punches thrown during those flurries, what did he do? Oscar was intimated, he didn't want to go for the KO punch, b/c he was afraid of Mayweathers counters. He throws one, he gets hit with two. I can't remember if he even through his devasting left hook that many times. I mean come on...I hate Mayweather just as much as the next guy, but you gotta give respect where its due.

If that's not enough, I think I will drop all ties with boxing for the rest of my life.

So explain to me, what people need to do these days?

This is why I haven't paid for a boxing PPV in like 8 years... it'll probably be another 8 years before I pay for another one... Oscar got screwed.... any fighter that spends 90% of the fight on their heels running should be stripped of his boxing liscense.

And I really like how Jim Lampley slammed MMA after the fight. Basically saying boxers are far more skilled than any MMA fighter... yeah ok.....

This kind of crap is exactly why boxing is in the toilet!!

Well the art of defense is the hardest part to master in boxing . IMHO.

In boxing, a defense specialist is so rare these days, I mean anyone can throw a knockout punch, but how many people can duck/evade like he did. I know I couldn't and I'm pretty damn fast.

And boxing in in the "toilet" b/c there is no recognizeable HW. Everyone grew up watching and talking about the HW fighter division, so with out that there isn't that dining room table draw to the sport.
But from the division under HW, its the best boxing has ever been.

so sugar ray leonard, marvin haglar, tommy hearns, alexis arguaillo (sp), Hector Comacho, michael carbajal, julio cesar chavez, roberto duran, etc were nothing?

i would say that most people over 30 would remember as many non-heavyweights as heavyweights if you started quizzing them.

Why?
because for most of that time they would only remember two heavyweights, Tyson and Ali

most wouldnt remember burbick, spinks, or even holmes for the most part.

maybe foreman, but i doubt even that would be an easy one for most.

Those are all exceptions, and alot of those aren't true household names imo. Even though Duran is one of my all time favorite fighters, but I don't think the average joe bloe would recognize that name.

But today's line up under the HW division is stacked. Better than it has ever been in boxing.
