Question Engrish question...

When is the proper time to use ['s] in plural words?

i.e. Do we say "many Gallardo's" or "many Gallardos"?

Thanks.

Sorry my Engrish isn't perfect... :

The Apostrophe used in different ways..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostrophe

it has two main functions: it marks omissions; and it assists in marking the possessives of all nouns and many pronouns. (In strictly limited cases, it is sometimes also allowed to assist in marking plurals, but most authorities are now against such usage

Examples
  • my sister’s friend’s investments (I have one sister and she has one friend.)
  • my sisters’ friends’ investments (I have many sisters and they have many friends.)
  • my sisters’ friend’s investments (I have many sisters and they have one friend.)
  • my sister’s friends’ investments (I have one sister and she has many friends.)
They omission way is like this

as gov’t for government, or ’70s for 1970s

But like the example I mentioned, do we use "Gallardos" or "Gallardo's" or "Gallardos'" or "Gallardo's'" when a word ends with a vowel?

Myself when using 'your & you're', I even cock up there once in awhile when in a rush to type something.

Gallardos (eg: There are many Gollardos over there or Val thinks Gallardos suck )
Gallardo's (eg: That Gallardo's engine has a problem)

I can't give you a proper english descriptor for them, but that's the idea in that case.

Ah I see, thanks

So it's actually wrong when we see people uses ['s] to mark as plural when the word ends with a vowel?

i.e. many gorilla's

The proper way should be "Rap is humping many gorillas", right?

Shit, I thought the " 's " meant adding an "is" after the word. As in who's = who is!? Damn I feel dumb

rinn highlighted that the apostrophe has multiple uses, and that's one of em

the plural form of Gallardo is Gallardos, (plurals are -s, -es, -ies)

Apostrophes signifies possession (The Gallardo's front tyres wear easily. The objects in possession are the front tyres) and contractions ("It's going pretty fast!"= it is. "I've never seen that before."= I have. Etc)

Thank you lol for reminding me that I have to study.
