Driving to Home Depot today, I rolled through a stop sign (should have completely stopped).
As soon as I made it through the intersection, I look to my left to see a sheriff sitting back in the cut, just watching the intersection. Dammit, just my luck.
I got pulled over about 100 yards up the road, and I see 2 officers get out. Now I realize one is probably in training, which DECREASES my chances of getting out of this. Gotta go by the book ya know.
So the young dude comes up to my window, asks for all the stuff, I gave him my license and military ID too. I also asked if it would help that I knew another officer local to the area, I knew her from the gym and handle some of her banking. He says: "no, that doesnt help that you rolled through that stop sign."
He goes back to the car, and the training officer comes up. We strike up a conversation, he asks me about the military, also how I knew the other officer... real pleasant type. He says "just give us a minute" and goes back to the car.
Up comes the young guy again, hands me back my info and says: "sir, thanks for serving our country and I can appreciate the fact that you know officer Phillips too. Be safe."
Granted, if I were rolling down the road at 40 over the speed limit nothing could have saved me, but it was nice to get over on "the man" today. I have no doubt in my mind that rookie was itching to give out a ticket.
