Important Mission Tomorrow......

First "real world" mission as an officer I guess....

Tomorrow I get to go the airport, in class A's, to meet the wife and 2 kids of a helicopter pilot that was killed in Iraq last week. Have to make sure they get to the place where the body will be brought in to, buried etc (since this was his home of record).

Seeing the wife and kids will be tough, I can only imagine the pain they are feeling. I hope she looks at me as someone there to help, and I will make sure to let her know how grateful I am for her husband's ultimate sacrifice.

I wish them the best

And extend a thank you for the sacrifice they made for our country. Right, wrong or indifferent American Solders and their willingness to serve are the reason and only reason we have the privileges we do. I am proud of them and support them in their commitments. And thank you for taking the responsibility to serve the family.

ONe job I never had to do in the Military....

I do not envy you.

Please let them know that there are many people in this country who are VERY proud of the husband/father and the service (all of it) that he gave to this country.

It went well this morning. The TSA personnel were very helpful. I got a pass and went right down to the terminal to wait on her, and they even held everyone so she could get off the plane first. It broke my heart to see her little son and daughter, oblivious to the fact that they will never see their father again.

I didn't say much really, except the business stuff, and often I caught her (out of the corner of my eye) just staring off into space. So sad....

The last thing I did before leaving her today was to shake her hand, look her in the eye, and tell her how thankful we all were for her husband's ultimate sacrifice.

I came back and got a little curious, found his picture and story online. R.I.P
