Ok, so we went downtown to the Cincy Latino Festival, which was being held this weekend. Every year they bring in pretty big "stars" from the salsa and merengue world, and because they aren't performing back home in Puerto Rico (or where ever) the crowds aren't as big and they are pretty accessible.
Tonight this guy named Andy Montanez was performing
This dude used to be the lead singer for pretty much the biggest and most popular salsa band of all time, El Gran Combo. He goes back to the 60's and 70's, my wife knows like all his music. To relate him to an American star, he would probably be the equivalent (in the latino community and in terms of popularity) of a Steven Tyler or Stevie Wonder.
Anyways, to make a long story short, it was a great concert, we were right up front and I got lots of good photos and vid. Towards the end of the concert, we asked one of the stage hands about getting a pic with Andy before he left. We were escorted back stage, where nobody else was. Then, they came back and asked my wife if she wanted to go on stage to dance with him. She was thrilled, and it was pretty cool for her
After she was done dancing, we awaited him to get done, so we could get a pic. This was the culmination, this was going in our scrap book, right alongside the pic of her with Victor Manuelle (another HUGE star). Andy gets done, comes back and greets her, and poses for the pic. I pull the camera out.......DEAD BATTERY!!!!!!!!!
No warning, just like that, fucking dead. I'm shocked, but quickly pull out my camera phone, hell it's better than nothing. But wait, the lens is all fogged up from being in my pocket. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ah well, no picture, but a good story. I'll post some pics from the event..
