ice storm

It's been pissing rain/freezing rain all day, and it's getting colder as the day goes on. still kinda slushy in spots, but it's definitely icy. They're estimating up to 1" ice accumulation before we're done for the day. Just stepped outside and took a few pics. The ice I'm holding in the first pic came off the railing on my front porch.

blech.

Just rain here so far. Its supposed to start freezing just in time for me to start my 1 hour drive home. Which means my 1 hour drive will probably take 2 or better.

The weather here in Norfolk's been pretty mild, but I've been talking to my wife in KC and she's been tellin' me how cold it's been and about all the ice. I go home on 2 wks leave on Fri., and she says it's supposed to be snowing sometime w/in the next couple days. I haven't seen snow for a couple years (I was over in the Gulf last year).

We live just outside Tulsa, OK and we've been without power now for around 60 hours. We have a gas log fireplace and gas stove, so no worries we'll be fine, just bored. I took some video of the damage, it's insane. I'll post it later when the power comes up. Just about EVERY tree is completely devastated. My parents have about 20-25 trees in their yeard they planted and have been growing for 25 years and they're gone. Some places they're estimating power may be out until next tuesday. Sure hope it's not that long!

(If anyone is wondering I'm posting this from work)

Keeping my fingers crossed it comes back on today. Crazy thing is, it's not like I live way out in the middle of nowhere... I live in the middle of town. My parents who live out in the country got power back yesterday

This time around, all the power issues around here were fixed within a day.

Last big ice storm we had in February, there were some outlying areas that were out of power for over a week iirc.

The City of KC did a pretty good job having everything and everyone on standby and ready to go. They didn't get too many power outages and the ones that did I think were turned on w/in a 24hr period, according to my wife. I've been talkin to her about getting a generator incase something like that happened to our home... as I'm sure Slickpitt knows, we get a chance for loss of power almost all yr round from all the diff storms (winter storms then being in good ol' Tornado Alley).

My mother and brother are down here visiting but have to fly back up to Pittsburgh this weekend then drive an hour home. Hope most of this passes by there before they get up there.
