Question ID Card confusion

The real question is, what is the standard?

Last weekend I lost my Drivers License, it must have fallen out of my wallet or something. I figured it out a few days ago when I went to pay for some beer at Kroger (supermarket). The cashier asked for my ID, and I was shocked to see that my license was missing. No problem, backup plan is the military ID. Problem...I was informed by the Kroger cashier that they don't accept military IDs as a form of Identification, she stated that our state was one in five that still didn't recognize military IDs. Seemed strange, considering it is about 50 times harder to get a military ID than a mere drivers license...but oh well. I then showed her my Concealed Carry Permit, which is pretty much the same template as a Driver's License, which she accepted.

Fast forward to this morning. I went to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to obtain a replacement license. Surprisingly enough, there was NOBODY in line, but that's beside the point. I told them of my need, and I was told that I needed a Birth Cert or Social Security card, neither of which I had on me. Maybe it was the Army uniform that I was wearing, but she then asked me if I had military ID, to which I replied that I did. She looked at the ID and accepted it as sufficient proof that I was who I stated I was, the only other requirement being that I needed one more form of supplemental ID. No problem, I whipped out my state issued Concealed Carry permit, to which she replied that they (the STATE BMV) to not recognize those as proof of ID (even though I had to pass an FBI background check to get it), but she would accept a credit card with my name on it as proof.

In terms of how hard they are to obtain, I would rank IDs in this order.
Hardest: Military ID (Training associated to obtain, numerous background checks, security clearance etc)
Medium: Concealed Carry Permit (Background checks, proof of weapons training, sometimes an interview with a Law Enforcement Officer)
Semi-Easy: Credit Card (Decent Credit, older than 18)
Easy: Drivers License (Be older than 16 and not a moron)

So, just to recap everything I learned this past week:
1-Military IDs are not acceptable forms of ID at the local supermarket if you want to buy beer, however if you want to get a replacement Drivers License, they are fine.
2-State issued Concealed Carry permits are ok as ID if you want to buy beer, but not ok if you want to use them as a 2nd form of ID to get a license.
3-A credit card with your name on it will never be considered a form of ID if you want to buy beer, but apparently it is good enough as a 2nd ID if you want a new license.

I am not sure about your state, but in mine a CCW might be tuff to get, but to create a forgery of one would be very easy. They have none of the security features of a drivers license like holographic images, embossed logos, or magnetic strips. I have not seen to many Military ID's but the ones I have seen did not look anywhere near as complicated to replicate as a DL but harder than a CCW.

Every state/fed department makes their own rules...so nothing is ever the same across the board.

Sounds like you had a fun time.... but like it was mentioned each store or company can really make there own rules.... out of respect I would think your military ID should have been sufficient though for beer...

yea, no biggie really since I got it all done. I just think it is one of those things where employees really don't know what they are talking about, so they just make shit up....

I can see stores making their own rules, but the chick at Kroger specifically said it was mandated by the state.

I've actually started to enjoy writing them for some reason :laugh Less about the rant itself, and more about telling the story...which is why Val calls me the "Phil-o-sepher" :comperror

A military id card should get you anything a drivers license would though as they are much harder to get and the new ones are often harder to duplicate then a drivers license. Now the old green card LOL that was a joke

no such thing as a concealed weapons permit in Canada.
You cannot even carry a pellet gun if it is concealed.
or a knife if it is longer then 4". I believe

Cheers

That seems like a massive hassle for ya :/

I guess that's one of the issues with various states having individual legislation in terms of identification, maybe there should be like a federal system of what sort of identifications that should be accepted as ID? like drivers licenses and governmental department issued licenses?
Well if worse comes to worse there's still passports, only that it would be kinda lame to come down to that in one's own country.

Bureaucrats lol had it been up to them we'd need to walk around with a ton of paperwork for everything.

it's kinda late and stuff so sorry if this post was all over the place.
