I called my mom when I saw the news about this, apparently it was after 5pm - zoo closes at 5pm - but the gates remain open till 6 to allow people time to get out.
There weren't alot of people there at that time and it was already dark.
No one's sure how the tiger got out, but they did find a shoe print inside the fence and blood splatter on a sign inside the fenced area.
So the tiger gets out and mauls one guy and takes off for another, gets distracted by first guy and goes back to him. The 2nd guy takes off towards the cafe along with his other friend. Both guys then get attacked by tiger.
Apparently, once he killed 1st guy, he followed the blood trail left by 2nd guy. That's when he attacks him and the 3rd guy.
There was a 911 call that came in while this was happening but wasn't taken seriously.
As for the first time the tiger injured another person, that was several years ago. It was her handler. The manner in which the tiger was being fed was not appropriate and the handler wasn't trained.
The human factor was very much the cause of this latest tragedy. But there was no way the tiger could be spared when it was found mauling another person.
One of the possibilities that is being investigated was if the boys that where attacked may have taunted the tiger. Obviously with the wall only being 12 ft tall, this tiger was able to make enough of an effort to get out.
These animals are fed daily and at this particular zoo, based on what mom has told me since she's been there, has three times the amount of room than most tigers have. So there's no reason why this tiger would leap 12ft out of it's enclosure unless it was provoked....
Mom tells me that their looking at the incidence as a criminal investigation to be able to determine not just how the tiger got out, but why.
BTW, the two guys that survived won't talk to the police at all about what happened, and they already had some problems with the law stemming from previous incidences.
Hopefully they'll say what actually happened.
