Challenger sold out already

Dodge Challenger Sold Out - Auto Shows

Chrysler is looking into boosting production to meet demand for the muscle car.
BY ALISA PRIDDLE, January 2008

The Dodge Challenger SRT8 hasn’t made its public debut yet, but the performance version of the muscle car already is sold out for 2008, says Jim Press, Chrysler president and the man in charge of sales and marketing.

The Challenger was first shown as a concept at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, and the production model is to be unveiled in February at the 2008 Chicago auto show. Style-wise, it doesn’t stray much from the concept.

Chrysler is kicking off sales by offering only the SRT8 performance model for the 2008 model year. It has a 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 pumping out 425 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The Challenger is available in black, silver, or Hemi Orange, with signature dual Dodge hood stripes in carbon fiber.

The production plan called for only 5500 Challenger SRT8s to be built, each with a numbered dash plaque. In an interview at the 2008 Detroit auto show, Press says orders number more than 9000 for the car that doesn’t go on sale until this spring, starting at $40,158 (a figure that includes a $2163 gas-guzzler charge). Of course, with demand almost double supply, we’ve already seen dealers asking $15,000 or so above sticker on eBay.

The automaker is looking to boost production at the Brampton, Ontario, plant where the Challenger will be built, with an announcement expected soon. Ironically, as part of cost-cutting and downsizing efforts, the third shift at the Brampton plant will be eliminated by March, resulting in about 1100 layoffs.

The base and R/T Challengers go on sale as 2009 models. They will make their public debut in March at the New York auto show.

Press says the automaker is looking into selling some of the limited-edition SRT8s as ’09s, to appease customers on the waiting list.

they wont be sold out...there is 5500 being made, that means 5500 people have said they would like to be on the waiting list. well, most of the people on waiting lists dont ever end up buying the car. the car manufacturer goes buy the number people say they want. but in reality most wont buy the car. they same thing happens at your local bike shop

Pricing Announced for 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 - Car News

Mere mortals should be able to afford some muscle.

BY JORDAN BROWN, November 2007 It’s time to cash in that Google stock and dig out the checkbook—pricing has been confirmed for the all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. Chrysler’s modern interpretation of the American classic is expected to resonate with enthusiasts, and with a starting price of $37,995, mere mortals can afford one. That puts it only $1400 north of the current Dodge Charger SRT8. The Challenger SRT8 will be the first in the model lineup to hit showroom floors in the spring, but you can get a first look at the production model at its unveiling in February at the 2008 Chicago auto show.
However, you’d better act fast if you think you want one—Dodge starts taking orders December 3. The Challenger will share the 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 engine in the Charger SRT8. Pumping out 425 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, this beast is sure to produce the same grins as it does in the Charger.
Dodge also tells us the car will feature a numbered dash plaque and the stylish carbon-fiber hood stripes featured on the Challenger concept. It will be available in black, silver, or Hemi orange paint.
As for the rest of the Challenger trim levels, pricing has yet to be announced, so we can only speculate at this point. Based on current Charger pricing, we expect a base Challenger to ring in somewhere around $24,000, with an R/T following in the $34,000 area. Either way, we’re still excited for yet another addition to the bargain-priced muscle market.

That is just a super-fresh car.
Personally I am tired of all the weak "green" cars. Bring back something that's actually worth driving.
