Firee

I got into the fire academy today! In 10 months I'll be a certified firefighter. I'm also doing mechanical engineering at the same time. Any idea how I can meld these two fields?

congrats.

how hard would it be to switch to electrical engineering? lots of fire/life safety engineering out here, but it is tiered under electrical.

you might also look into designing fire sprinkler systems for buildings. not sure if that falls under mech engineering.

lol, no worries.

There's some really interesting systems in fire suppression systems too, all kinds of ways of making sure they open when they're supposed to, and redundancy ontop of redundancy.

i agree we are a mechanical contractor, and when istalling A/C in server rooms they have some super complicated/elaborate dry fire supprssion systems going in, so that it doesnt destroy millions of dollars worth of servers by dumping water in the event of fire. crazy stuff.

ya man, they can be mondo complex. Everyone will laugh I'm sure but I really miss having those old mechanical fuel pumps on motors. A lot of the time the bloody fuel pump was more interesting mechanically than the engine it was bolted to.
