F1: Confirmation of WilliamsF1 Cosworth deal.
MONDAY 15TH AUGUST 2005
Not presenting any real surprises, WilliamsF1 and Cosworth have announced that they will be collaborating for the V8 power for WilliamsF1's future Formula One entry.
Billed as 'a wide-ranging partnership agreement for the provision and development of V8 engines,' the deal is described as not being based on a traditional engine supply agreement with both WilliamsF1 and Cosworth investing in the programme.
"Cosworth is a leading global authority on V8 engine technology," explains WilliamsF1 team boss, Frank Williams. "Next year is a brand new start for all concerned given 16 years of V10 engines. Some teams and manufacturers have absolutely no experience of V8s while others enjoy only limited experience. Cosworth, however, have excelled both historically, as well as in contemporary V8-powered international motorsport.
"The evidence of Cosworth's V8 progress we have seen so far validates completely the expectation we have of enjoying a class-leading package given next season's engine rule changes."
