Schedule announced for 2006 US Grand Prix

The weekend schedule has been announced for the 2006 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix July 21-23 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, marking the mid-summer appearance for the MotoGP World Championship in the United States.

The turnout for the inaugural Red Bull US Grand Prix was the highest ever in the track's 49-year history, when 153,653 spectators witnessed the return of the MotoGP World Championship to American soil after an 11-year absence.

The weekend kicks off Friday, July 21st at 8:00 a.m. (all times Pacific Time), with the Lockhart Phillips USA Formula Xtreme practice session, followed by AMA Superbike presented by Parts Unlimited with a 45 minute practice session. At 10:00 a.m., 2005 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix champion Nicky Hayden leads the rest of the MotoGP World Championship onto the 2.238-mile, 11 turn road course for their first free practice session. MotoGP riders return to the course at 2:00 p.m., for another hour-long free practice session.

Friday also features practice sessions for AMA Pro Honda Oils Supersport presented by Shoei and the AMA Repsol Lubricants Superstock. Formula Xtreme will qualify at 4:00 p.m.

Saturday includes the MotoGP World Championship with a 10:00 a.m. free practice session and an hour long qualifying session at 2:00 p.m. Saturday also features two races: Formula Xtreme at 3:15 p.m., and the AMA Superbike Championship at 4:15 p.m.

Sunday is capped by the most anticipated motorcycle road race of the season, the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix featuring the MotoGP World Championship at 2:00 p.m. AMA Supersport (10:55 a.m.) and Superstock (3:30 p.m.) complement Sunday's schedule.

In addition, spectator track crossings have been scheduled to ease the flow around the facility. Crossings will be made, in each direction, near the Start/Finish bridge and near the Dunlop Tire bridge at specified times.

A number of spectator amenities have been announced to improve the 2006 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix. A new traffic flow plan is in place to also help to increase the fan experience.
Highlights of the plan include all general admission parking off-site, with spectators transported via shuttle bus; a motorcycle-only entrance; and increased staffing and directional signage. Additionally, the number of concession stands has been increased dramatically, the official souvenir store will now be housed in an 8,000 square foot tent in Yamaha Marketplace, and more and better-located restrooms will be available throughout the facility.

Tickets are on sale now for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca's 50th Season of Racing including the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix July 21-23, the 33rd Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races August 18-20 and the Monterey Sports Car Championships featuring the American Le Mans Series October 20-22.

I heard last year on Thursday, people were allowed in and riders had an autograph session.

Has anyone heard if they will do that this year?
