Rossi Ready to Attempt Greatest Comeback Ever

By Dirck J. Edge

Just two weeks ago, Valentino Rossi was more than 40 points adrift of Nicky Hayden in the 2006 MotoGP championship. He was also nursing a freshly broken throttle hand. Somehow, he managed to score a second place at Donington Park, while Hayden placed an uncharacteristic seventh. Seemingly, Rossi's prospects for the remainder of the series radically changed at Donington. Now, Rossi is talking about being 100% physically ready for this weekend's German MotoGP event.

Yes, Rossi is looking to go on another winning streak with eight races remaining. Mathematically, he could beat Hayden (and everyone else) and take another MotoGP crown this year. If he does, I would personally consider it the greatest comeback in racing history. I won't recite all of the problems Rossi has had this year, but he certainly has had his reasons for the massive points deficit. If he can erase that deficit while recovering from injury, it will add a new chapter to his legend.

vs 92 when Wayne came back from a 70 pointe deficit? on a point system where a win was worth 20, a 2nd-15, a 3rd, 12.
