***Spoiler*** WSB Race 1

Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra’s Yukio Kagayama took his first win of the season with a patient approach to the first race of the seventh round of the World Superbike Championship at Brno in the Czech Republic.

The Japanese rider stalked Winston Ten Kate Honda’s James Toseland for 14 of 20 laps before making his move. Once in front, Kagayama easily pulled away to win by 3.9 seconds.

Toseland was well clear of the battle for third, waged among a number of riders, including Yamaha Motor Italia teammates Nori Haga and Andrew Pitt. Haga took the spot on the 15th lap and was there until the final lap when he was passed by D.F.X. Treme Honda’s Michel Fabrizio, who moved from fifth to third in one lap. Fabrizio ended up beating Haga by .2 of a second, with Pitt retiring a lap from the end after dropping to eighth.

Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra’s Troy Corser was dropped from fourth to fifth by Fabrizio’s last-lap heroics.

The defending World Champion lost a valuable opportunity to gain points on current championship leader Troy Bayliss. The Ducati Xerox rider crashed in the first corner when he was unable to avoid the falling PSG-1 Kawasaki of Regis Laconi. Bayliss still holds the championship lead with 254 points. Toseland moves into second with 177, Haga sits third with 173, with Corser in fourth at 160.

Klaffi Honda’s Alex Barros pulled out on the eighth lap with handling woes; and Australian Andrew Pitt was forced on the final lap with a mechanical problem while in the battle for third place.
