Troy Bayliss holds them off in Superpole

Ducati Xerox’s Troy Bayliss held on to pole position today at Brands Hatch in England, the Australian bettering his best from qualifying in the one-lap Superpole competition.

Bayliss’ best from qualifying was a 1:26.272, but he went faster than that in Superpole, lapping at 1:25.449 to lead Yamaha’s Noriyuki Haga and his 1:25.857

Karl Muggeridge showed huge improvement in Superpole, the Australian and his Winston Ten Kate Honda jumping from ninth in regular qualifying to a front row start in third place after Superpole. Muggeridge improved from a 1:26.741 to a 1:25.901. The front row will be filled for tomorrow’s two races by Muggeridge’s teammate James Toseland.

Alstare Corona Extra Suzuki’s Troy Corser will head row two for the tomorrow’s races after dropping one place from regular qualifying. Corser will be joined on the second row by Yamaha’s Andrew Pitt, Kawasaki’s Regis Laconi and his teammate Chris Walker. Laconi did the opposite of Muggeridge, dropping from third after regular qualifying to seventh in Superpole.

Last week’s double winner Yukio Kagayama also dropped down the grid with his Superpole lap, going from 5th to ninth, holding off British Superbike Series regular Tommy Hill, the Mobile Yamaha rider ending up 10th.

10. Tommy Hill (Yamaha) 1:26.580
