**Spoiler*** AMA Superbike Mid-Ohio

Yoshimura Suzuki's Ben Spies had to win twice to win once, but that he did, proving to be the class of the AMA Superbike field today at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

After opening up a 9.6 second lead in the first 16 laps (2.3 seconds on the opening lap alone), Spies was forced to do it all again when a crash in the Keyhole with Jason Pridmore and Taylor Knapp brought out the red flag.

So Spies just went out and did it all again, storming to victory in the 10-lap restarted portion of the race to beat his teammate Mat Mladin by 5.7 seconds. American Honda's Miguel Duhamel ended up third, 3.4 seconds behind Mladin and clear of fourth-placed Aaron Yates on the third Yoshimura Suzuki.

Yates, meanwhile, just held of Kawasaki's Tommy Hayden by .2 of a second with Hayden improving his race finish drastically after ending the first part of the race in eighth place.

Sixth place went to Michael Jordan Motorsports' Steve Rapp over his teammate Jake Holden. Then came Kawasaki's Roger Lee Hayden, Pegram Racing's Larry Pegram and Matt Lynn.

This one was all about Spies, however as he rode to his ninth victory of the season in perhaps as impressive fashion as in any of his previous eight wins. This time he was dominant, proving that not once but twice on the a brilliantly sunny day in central Ohio.

Despite the red flag, Spies led every single lap and that only further increased his lead in the championship. After 13 rounds, Spies leads the title chase by 40 points, 464-424.

"The bike is working so good," Spies said. "The GSX-R made it easy, well not easy, but the bike is working awesome. We had to regroup, go back out and we did."

It was a rough day for the factory Ducatis with both bikes suffering from mechanical problems at various points in the race. Ben Bostrom pitted once and ended up 20th, with Neil Hodgson starting the second part of the race from pit road and ending up 16th.

The other of the top guns not to finish was American Honda's Jake Zemke. Zemke ran with Mladin and Duhamel in both parts, but crashed out spectacularly on the sixth lap of the restart. Fortunately, like Pridmore, Zemke escaped injury.

Superbike Final

1. Ben Spies (Suzuki)

2. Mat Mladin (Suzuki)

3. Miguel Duhamel (Honda)

4. Aaron Yates (Suzuki)

5. Tommy Hayden (Kawasaki)

6. Steve Rapp (Suzuki)

7. Jake Holden (Suzuki)

8. Roger Lee Hayden (Kawasaki)

Woo! It'll be good to see somebody beside Mladin with the tittle this year.

Could be team orders to let the kid win this year, good for the sport and don't hurt the team

Think Ben has the mental edge right now, and is hungry for his first title. It just simply changing of the guards. Kinda like in GP.

Ben has stepped it up a lot, I don't think Mat is really slowing down, he just hasn't been able to speed up enough.

As for Ben, he just signed a 2 year deal to stay with Yoshimura in AMA.
