Pedrosa in doubt after deep cut.

Pedrosa in doubt after deep cut

A spectacular highside during Friday's second free practice session at Sepang has left MotoGP title contender Dani Pedrosa with a deep cut just below his right knee and in doubt for the remainder of the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The 20-year-old Repsol Honda rookie, who starts the event second in the world championship standings and 25 points behind team-mate Nicky Hayden, was fastest at the time of his mid-session fall - and such was his pace that the Spaniard only dropped one position, to Loris Capirossi, in his absence.

However, the cut is two centimetres wide and very deep which is restricting movement of his right leg. Dani also damaged the big toe of his left foot in the spectacular fall, from which he was able to walk away.

Pedrosa will now have a medical check on Saturday morning to see if he can take part in qualifying and the race on Sunday. Crucially, Sepang starts a run of three races in three weekends, meaning Pedrosa - who closed the points gap significantly on Hayden last time out at Brno - is likely to carry the injury for the next two rounds.

The Malaysian Grand Prix is round thirteen of seventeen.

Well that blows. But I gotta think Nicky is giving thanks in his own mind. Danni off his game is all the better for him.
