Suzuki WSBK Head: Get Me Ben Spies

From the Soup!

Quote:
Straight from Alstare Suzuki team owner Francis Batta's mouth--what rider would be considered "the ideal addition" to his WSBK team for 2009?
None other than reigning AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies.
Batta feels that Spies would be very successful in WSBK, and would have a strong chance to win the Championship in 2010, after a year of learning the tracks and adjusting to the lifestyle. Batta believes that Spies would be more than capable of winning SBK races in his first year. He also felt that Spies' riding style would be directly applicable to a World Superbike, making for a natural transition from AMA SBK. MotoGP bikes, Batta warned, are a very different animal from a Superbike (AMA or World Spec), so between the bikes, tracks and traveling, Spies would face a very steep learning curve in MotoGP.
Although Batta described Spies as his "ideal choice" for an Alstare Suzuki WSBK seat in 2009, he knows it will be tough to land Ben. "Spies is totally focused on going to MotoGP", said Batta.
With no full time American riders in the World Superbike series (Ben Bostrom last raced for Renegade Koji Honda SBK in 2005), and the return of the series to the USA in 2008, SBK organizers are said to be very eager to attract an American rider that can win races.
